"While they were eating, Jesus took bread, said the blessing, broke it, and giving it to his disciples said, “Take and eat; this is my body.” Then he took a cup, gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, “Drink from it, all of you, for this is my blood of the covenant, which will be shed on behalf of many for the forgiveness of sins." - Matthew 26:26-27
Eucharist (also called Holy Communion) is the only Sacrament of Initiation that Catholics receive more than once. It is at Eucharist that we are nourished spiritually, brought closer to God and where we become united to the person of Christ as we receive His body and blood again and again.
First Holy Communion for Children - This sacrament is open to children 7 years old and older who have been baptized in the Church and who have completed First Penance.
The First Holy Communion program is completed in two steps and begins with at-home preparation beginning in late winter for Sacrament of Reconciliation (also called Penance or Confession). Once the sacrament is received during the Lenten Season, preparation for the First Holy Communion begins with at-home preparation in early spring. First Holy Communion is administered and received during the Easter Season.
Note: Children planning to make First Holy Communion are expected to participate, on a regular basis, in a Catholic faith formation program either through the Church or Catholic School at least one year preceding enrollment for First Holy Communion.
