"...after me comes one who is more powerful than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire." - Matthew 3:11
Baptism is a precious gift given to us by God. It is through the waters of Baptism that God enables us to participate in the life of Jesus Christ and receive the Holy Spirit. At Baptism where we are freed from original sin and become incorporated into the Body of Christ, the Church and thus share in the Church’s mission. Baptism is the first of the three Sacraments of Initiation within the Catholic Church. The sacraments of the Eucharist (Holy Communion) and Confirmation complete the Sacrament of Initiation. A person is considered fully-initiated into the Catholic Church once all three sacraments are completed.
Baptisms for Adults / Families- Adults, couples or parents with children wishing to be newly baptized into the Catholic faith generally do so by entering the Rite of Christian Initiation program. Through the program the sacraments of Baptism, First Eucharist and Confirmation are studied by the candidate and then administered through the Church at the Easter Vigil. To be put in contact with our program coordinator, please contact the parish office.
Baptisms for Children- Perhaps you are expecting a new arrival, have a newborn at home or maybe you are already enjoying the blessings of a child. Whatever your situation is, you are probably also thinking about the next step, Baptism. Children are welcome at the Sacrament of Baptism at any time throughout the year.
After Baptism the parents and sponsors (godparents) help the child to know God, and prepare the child to receive Holy Communion and Confirmation through further religious education and preparation over the years.
You can make an appointment for the Sacrament of Baptism for your child by calling Deb Brinkhus at the parish office.
